It's amazing to think about how small Quinn was when we first started him at Elayna's, only 10 weeks old and such a little nubbin of a boy. This morning he started preschool at the neighborhood Montessori and walked in the door on his own two feet carrying his Thomas lunch box and wearing his Thomas backpack. We ran him in using the new stroller; 12 minutes door to door, probably less once Mama gets back in better running shape. Although he cried when we walked out the door, by the time we had taken five steps out of his sight he settled down and got busy. Apparently he figured out immediately (Mama bragging, take with grain of salt!) where to go to get puzzles, to get the little chairs down off the little tables, and to get right to work (he's brilliant!). I had thought maybe it might take him a day or so of sitting and watching the other kids to get in the swing of things but apparently he's transitioning well. We're starting up just in time for school pictures in two weeks. It's crazy!
Now comes the interesting part; what else is he going to learn at this new school from all the older boys and girls? Will he remain the sweet little polite (mostly) though somewhat opinionated guy he is now or will he acquire rougher 5 year-old-style (can't believe that's actually something I worry about) habits? Only time will tell but one thing is certain, he's going to be learning a lot and he's going to change.
